Highlighting Youth Role Models

The Search for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) initiated in 2002 by Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, who noted that there were very few awards that acknowledged the contribution and the efforts of youth groups and organizations.

TAYO has emerged to be the country’s foremost award for youth organizations. It is given annually to ten outstanding Filipino youth clubs that have undertaken a recent project or program that has benefited a local community to which they belong.

Providing Filipino Youth with Quality Education through Scholarship Grants

An educated citizenry is indispensable in any society so that people could participate intelligently in the discussion of vital issues and in molding public opinion necessary to the existence of any society. Education is also important so that the constituents in the community could perform their assigned roles as agents of production in the crucial effort towards economic and social development. Education enables an individual to contribute fully and more efficiently to the expansion of the national output and to participate fully in the country’s overall development efforts.

Educating Filipinos Through New Media

Senator Kiko Pangilinan has partnered with the ABS-CBN Foundation and the Department of Education in providing quality-learning materials for public elementary students nationwide through the Educational Television or “ETV” Project. The ETV Project aims to upgrade educational infrastructure in public schools through the effective utilization of Multimedia-Assisted Instructional materials. Among these materials are top international award-winning shows Hirayamanawari (Values Education), MathTinik (Math), Bayani (Philippine History), Apple/Epol (Language and Reading) and Sineskwela (Science).

Sen. Kiko’s partnership with ABS-CBN Foundation and the Department of Education will provide learning alternatives that serve as excellent and effective supplements to subject matters covered by the Basic Education Curriculum. The ETV Package consists of 108 volumes of ETV shows in DVD format, a 21” colored TV, and a DVD player.

Despite the many hurdles that we face as a nation, the resilient Filipino spirit will push on to spark innovation and inspiration. Promoting Regional Opportunities for Enterprise and Livelihood Development (PROPEL) is a breathing example of how the Filipino talent, if given the right guidance and support, can defy any challenge that comes its way.

Over the years, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Office of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan have been witness to PROPEL’s magic of not just providing access to business opportunities, financial support and training to deserving, budding entrepreneurs, but more importantly, strengthening their self-reliance, value for hard work and optimism.

The Office of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, ensuring that its special projects are executed under the template of private-public sector partnerships, has been loyal to the cause of the housing project Gawad Kalinga (GK).

To date, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan is the leading donor to GK among government entities, with more than P40 million of Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) going to this worthy cause.

School Buildings: Building Dreams for the Future Through Quality Education

Sen. Kiko Pangilinan has allotted a total of Php 80 million for the construction of 200 school buildings/classrooms all over the country, in partnership with the Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the local government units.

The program covers 12 regions, 45 provinces and 200 cities and municipalities.  An additional Php 2 million has also been used to rehabilitate schools that were affected by the mudslides in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte.
